My Speech

My Speech

This is my speech for the 2010 Pukekohe intermediatespeech competition
1)New Zealand the place to go and see the native fauna and wildlife
and it has great tourism. I believe the doc estate mining plans will
ruin that. If you ask people what they think about New Zealand they
imagine a green eco friendly place . But are we really as green a
country as we think we are?

2)Politicians are arguing whether or not they should start mining in the Doc estate some say it will bring wealth to the economy but we already produce 21 billion dollars in tourism every year!!!We could risk alot of this money if we go through with the doc estate mining plans.

3)Unlike most pioneer settlers mining was not a huge industry that is why
alot of our native forests remain intact and have flourished to their full
potential. Through the years each plant and tree has had its own individuality
and many of these plants and trees have huge populations based in native
forests in the doc estate.

4)If the open cast mining proceeds we are likely to lose a great proportion out of
the 21 billion dollars gained in tourism every year and the economy will lose
money possibly meaning higher tax rates!!!

5)To restore an opencast mine they need to land scape and pay to get soil from other places they normally get this money from tax money which they receive
from the goverment. ( Which comes from you!!!)

6)How would you like to be going for a walk in the forest when the ground caves
in underneath you? This could be the case if we open cast mine in the doc sssestate.open cast mining causes alot of erosion meaning not only will 7000
hectares of native land be destroyed so will land around the open cast mine.
t about our land and protecting it and its resources. So what do you want to do risk our native forests for some money or keep our clean green image? You decide

7)The pioneer settlers knew little about the land and conserving or erosion but now we know alot about our land and protecting it and its resources. So what do you want to do risk our native forests for some money or keep our clean green image? You decide
